Why the ‘old days’ were so good

ONE reason the Freedom brand has taken off for Sherpa is because the Great Australian Dream is not a unit. But there’s no doubt that nostalgia plays an important role in other ways.

Almost every one of the 16 homes at Freedom Rainbow Bay has been purchased by people with fond memories of childhood holidays at Rainbow Beach or nearby.

And many of them remember staying at the Sunset Strip, which occupied part of the site to be developed into Freedom Rainbow Bay, a land subdivision that brings free-standing, freehold beach homes to one of the best lifestyle locations on the Gold Coast.

Buying an affordable new home so close to the beach generally means having to compromise with an apartment and the body corporate constraints that come with it. Freedom combines the best of both worlds without putting homes out of reach.

The Freedom Rainbow Bay was zoned for construction of 157 apartments and probably any other developer would have opted for creating that density of product.

Sherpa Property Group CEO, Christie Leet, said it was the change in focus from maximising density to maximising lifestyle that was somewhat of a revolution for the Gold Coast.

“It’s probably been 30 years or more since we’ve seen a beachside subdivision for house and land packages,” he said.

“The positive response on the market suggests there has always been a demand for this type of development.”

Sold out in a day

The strength of demand for the Freedom brand was demonstrated at Cabarita recently when the entire estate was sold out on the day of launch.

The Freedom Caba development, at popular Cabarita, offered premium freehold land just 700m to Cabarita Beach, voted Australia’s best beach in 2019.

“There’s still a very strong belief that a home is a house and the majority of us, who grew up in Australia, grew up in a house,” Mr Leet said.

“We grew up with plenty of space and room to move so it’s not surprising that romantic view of a home is still a driver in the market.

“Our Freedom philosophy is to find amazing locations where you can have the freedom to make the most of the Great Australian Dream and enjoy picture-perfect coastal living.

“We build individual homes free from body corporates, with the freedom to tailor interiors to suit you. Whether you want a permanent home for the family, a relaxed place to retire, or a holiday home to ‘lock and leave’, the freedom is yours.”
