Miners retreating to Whitsundays

Miners in the Bowen Basin are increasingly looking to the Whitsunday region not only as a holiday destination but as a place to base their family. Fly-In-Fly-Out (FIFO) workers on a “days-on/days-off” roster are often commuting to and from the airport, wasting their time in traffic jams in the southern cities.

With a home base in the Whitsundays, they can drive themselves without eating any more into their personal time. That’s why Whitsunday Lakes is the ideal place for workers in mining and mining services.

Leisure time on their days off more than make up for what is a tough job during their days on. And, importantly, their family can enjoy the world-class Whitsunday region every day.

Marketing agent Andy Camm says about 35% of enquiries received to date on stage 7 have been from the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast regions, where FIFO workers are looking for a better lifestyle for their young families, within driving distance to the mining camps.

“The best value land in Cannonvale at the moment is Whitsunday Lakes,” he said. “Because there is so much open space, parkland, and native bush through the development, it’s the perfect retreat for families to spend quality time off together.”
