Sherpa Property Group Partners With Serving Our People To Open The Gold Coast’s First Southern People’s Market

Sherpa Property Group has partnered with leading charity Serving Our People to provide a temporary home for the organisation’s newest People’s Market, offering vital community support from a recently acquired site in Palm Beach.

This partnership follows previous collaborations between Sherpa and Serving Our People, including a 2024 Christmas toy drive hosted at the Flourish sales office, and the donation of an apartment in Sherpa’s Nexus Palm Beach development to support the charity’s emergency housing efforts.

Additionally, Sherpa made a major donation to the Kollosche People’s Ball in 2024, further reinforcing its commitment to giving back through grassroots and community-led initiatives. Sherpa has now stepped up again to underwrite SOP’s newest People’s Market – covering the full cost of rent and food supplies until Christmas to ensure the service is delivered at no cost to the community.

The initiative will see the popular not-for-profit establish its fourth Queensland market, and its first on the Southern Gold Coast, at a Sherpa-owned site on the Gold Coast Highway.

The new location will open its doors on 19 June and is expected to support up to 500 people a day with free or low-cost groceries, furniture, and essential services.

“Serving Our People’s mission of meeting people where they are and delivering real, practical support aligns deeply with our own commitment to community,” said Christie Leet, Founder of Sherpa Property Group.

“We’re proud to be able to activate one of our future development sites for such a powerful and immediate cause.

“Our roots run deep in Palm Beach; this is our sixth project in the area, and we see this partnership as a meaningful way to give back to a community that continues to support us.”

The People’s Market will be open five days a week from 9 am to 5 pm, offering fresh fruit and vegetables, snacks, frozen meals and drinks. In addition, a dedicated furniture outlet will operate on site, providing repurposed household items, some free, others available at a low cost to help cover operational expenses.

The model provides flexible support for vulnerable individuals and families, including those impacted by domestic violence or housing instability, by offering dignity-first access to essential goods that help people get back on their feet.

The Palm Beach market will also serve as a base for Serving Our People’s local school breakfast program, with food and resources distributed directly to surrounding schools.

“This is a huge moment for our organisation and the communities we serve,” said Yas Matbouly, Founder and CEO of Serving Our People.

“Thanks to Sherpa’s generous support, we’re able to respond rapidly to the growing need in the southern corridor and continue delivering services where they’re most urgently needed.

“Every opening we’ve held has drawn overwhelming community support, and we’re hoping this one will be no different.”

Community members wishing to support the initiative can drop off donations at SOP’s Mermaid Beach headquarters.

“We’ve long believed that property developers have a responsibility beyond bricks and mortar,” said Mr Leet.

“This is about using the resources we have to meet a real and urgent need. It’s about stepping up and giving back.”

This partnership follows previous collaborations between Sherpa and Serving Our People, including a 2024 Christmas toy drive hosted at the Flourish sales office, and the donation of a fully furnished apartment in Sherpa’s Nexus Palm Beach development to support the charity’s emergency housing efforts.

Sherpa has lodged a Development Application for the Palm Beach site, which represents the developer’s sixth in the area and reflects its broader commitment to contributing positively to the communities in which it operates.
